Caribbean stud poker
Caribbean stud poker is a card game with rules similar to five card stud poker. Unlike for example texas hold’em and other poker games, Caribbean stud is played against the house. So as you will never have to edge over other players, because the house alsways has, there is no bluffing or other deception. However it still requires quite some knowledge to play the game to its max. If you use the optimal strategy the house edge is 5.224% of the player’s ante bet.
Caribbean Stud Poker is more or less invented to lure poker fans to play more casino table games. Because it was often played in casinos on cruise ships, the name caribbean was used the give the game a name. However in the UK the game is calle “Casino Five Card Stud Poker” or “Casino Stud Poker” for short. The difference as well is that in the UK not all the casinos use Jackpots.
How to play caribbean stud poker.
Obtain a better hand of cards than the house.
The player must make an initial Ante bet by clicking on the chips in the player’s chip stack. Then the dealer and player are each dealt 5 cards.
The player can only see one of the dealer’s cards and must decide whether to fold or call. If the player folds, the ante bet is forfeited. If the player calls, the player must place a call bet, which is exactly two times the ante bet.
If the call bet is placed, first the house checks to see if her hand qualifies. The house must have an Ace King or better card combination to qualify. If the house does not qualify, the player is paid 1 to 1 against the ante bet, and the call bet is returned.
If the house does qualify, the house and player hands are compared. If the player has a better hand, the player is paid 1 to 1 against the ante bet, and at the “bonus payouts” rate against the call bet.
Often the player can place the progressive bet before the cards are dealt to also participate in the progressive jackpots.
