The Texas HoldEm game style at the centre of the offering provides full scope for a competitive Artificial Intelligence that keeps the player on his or her toes with some challenging moves, improving skills and providing entertainment at the same time.

Glu Mobile’s AI presents five opponents in each match, each with a different level of skill and aggression, making for a more rounded game for pokerheads. The presence of the ‘tells’ that are so much a part of the game is also attempted, but not through the actual player avatars. Instead,  a question mark or exclamation mark appears over the avatar to signify weak or strong hands at random, giving the experience an additional tweak.

The mobile poker game also includes a strength meter which appears each time new cards are dealt in the form of a five bar indicator that lights up to show how the strengths of the customer’s two cards (and the cards on the table, if they have been dealt).

The annual event is held at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV from March 4th to March 7th and will be televised in a 6-episode series beginning April 18th on NBC.

“I have recently had eye-surgery so I have been able to play a lot of online poker while recovering,” Ramirez said. “I am so excited to play against many of the people I watch on TV. I am a huge poker fan. I first registered in October and now I’m going to Las Vegas to play against the pros for a chance at $500,000! It’s just unbelievable…this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!”

The final tournament started slowly for Ramirez who kept telling himself that he had learned how to be patient playing on the Zen Gaming Network. “I was card dead for about an hour,” he noted. “I just assumed I was out of luck when I turned it around and doubled through twice.” The tide-shifting hand was later when Ramirez, with about 50,000 chips, raised with A-K on the button and was pushed all in by the big blind’s A-Q. Ramirez’s hand held up, he established the chip lead, and never relinquished it.

Ramirez road gets tougher. He will face stiff competition at the NHPC, as some of the world’s best known players will be in attendance including 11-time World Series of Poker Champion Phil Hellmuth, 7-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey, and former NHPC winners Chris Ferguson and Huck Seed. The single-elimination, bracket-style tournament is modeled after the college basketball championship. Players who win a match advance to the next round, the player who wins six matches in a row is crowned champion.

“We wanted to add a wild-card entry into this year’s competition,” said Mori Eskandani, President of POKER PROductions. “We loved the software platform and introduced it to NBCSports.com who joined the Zen Network shortly thereafter. This contest has provided Americans the chance at fame, fortune and access to high-drama poker action. Round 1 is underway with poker players from each country hoping to qualify for the second round of action. After the first round is completed players will have played 10 poker tournaments at Titan Poker, earning ranking points for their finishing position. The top players from each country will form the final 200 players from around the world who will play a further eight tournaments. The top five players overall after the second round is completed will each earn one of the five WSOP packages on offer from Titan Poker and be crowned winners of the World Challenge. The structure of Titan Poker’s World Challenge ensures that only the best players will rise to the top of the rankings and earn their place.

The first round is currently at the half-way stage and in the United Kingdom “pain43” leads the way with 43 ranking points, well ahead of “RoninWarrior” who is in second place with 39 points. Players from Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden are fiercely battling for 20 places on offer to Scandinavian players for round 2. “Jonezki11” and “kgambles” have 28 and 26 points respectively and look in control of round 1 so far.

After its heyday in the truly Texas dark dens Texas Hold’em was brought to Las Vegas by none other than Crandell Addington, Roscoe Weiser & the likes of Doyle Brunson. Texas Hold’em, a community card game, uses a format where each player can use a combination of the five community cards and his own two hole cards to make a poker hand, contrary to other poker variants like stud or draw where every player holds a separate individual hand.
Texas Hold’em, like all other Poker variants, allows an individual to compete for a sum of money collected by the players themselves (known as the pot). As the cards dealing happen randomly, it is beyond the control of the players, & each player tries to control the amount of money in the pot based on the hand the player holds.
