Big Blind and Small Blind in Poker Game

Poker is an exciting card game that involves betting and the winner takes the entire pot. As poker largely centers much on betting so it is very important to understand the types of bets that are followed in online card rooms and offline casinos while playing for real money. In poker games Blinds are forced bets that are of two types Big blind and small blind. Blinds greatly dominate the game and so you should understand it in a better way.

The big and small blinds (also termed as ‘the blinds’) are usually referred to the mandatory bets that poker players have to place in every single hand of the game.

The dealer button rotates clockwise and also determines the blinds. The player sitting immediate left to the dealer have to play the small blind, whereas, the player to the left of the small blind have to play the big blind.

However in online poker, players do not have to wait for their turn to place blinds as the poker software automatically indicates it.

In Online and offline poker tournaments, the blinds escalate automatically during the game with the increase in the stakes. However, while playing blinds you should be cautious and also keep a close eye on the opponents’ moves including their way of placing bets and playing blinds.

Poker rules state that as soon as the cards are dealt on the table all players are given three options: Call, Raise or Fold. All those players who are willing to go ahead with their cards after having a glimpse will have to post the blinds. The small blind is half the value of the big blind. Moreover, while playing if no player raises the pot and the player who is playing big blind have to pay the big blind stake to view the flop. And the player placing small blind is made to pay the amount that s/he has placed the bet.

If a player decides to ‘Call’, then s/he has to bet the same amount as the biggest bet made by the players acting before her/him.

By opting for ‘raise’ a player calls for the highest bet against all the players. It depends on the player how much s/he wants to raise.

If a player decides not to play, then the option ‘Fold’ is available to discontinue the game at any time.

Making fast and correct decisions matters a lot while placing big blind and small blind in both traditional and online poker games. So, just fold your cards if you think that the cards are of less ranking.

So, as you are playing for real money you should know all the rules of the game and how to place bets so that you can perform better and win money.
